Can someone let me know where the hipster shops are in Sunset Park? According to amNewYork, Sunset Park has "hipster joints open[ing] next door to mom-and-pop Spanish shops." It doesn't mention Happy Days or any of the 3rd Avenue "shoppes" in its list. Not even the bizarre Fiesta Fashion gets a nod. The list of stores includes the famous Mr. C's cycles, My Secret Place (no, no, not THAT kind of shop), and Keonoar Dos Sports. Apparently, My Secret Place - actually a used clothing shop - is counted as hipster. I guess I have to call it vintage then.
The article also mentions "mommies power-walk[ing] Bugaboo strollers that cost more than their neighbor's car." I guess I'm less observant than I thought I was. Which one is a Bugaboo?
It doesn't mention Irish Haven or El Tesoro in its bar/restaurant round-up. It does, however, mention Tacos 2004! Sex on the Beach can be had there.
Ah well. Check out the article here; do you think it is an accurate portrayal of the neighborhood?

There are quite a few hipster-esque places in greenwood heights. It looks like the article is placing our border at 17th street so I would guess that's what they're talking about. Southside Coffee on 6th ave and 19th street is good, so is Quarter bar on 5th ave and 20th street.
I guess my headline should have been "amNY Stretches Reality and Boundaries in Sunset Park."
Just out of curiosity: Where would you place the borders of Sunset Park? In my mind it's below 36th street, above 60th, and west of 9th avenue. But I know a lot of people think it extends all the way up to Prospect Expressway.
Geez, if that's Sunset Park, I'm in no-man's land up here on 32nd. I'd be interested to hear that, too...
Hipsters were spotted at Coraline's on 62nd St/5th Ave just this weekend. Southern boundary of Sunset Park maybe used to be 60th St, because 61-62-63-64 Streets are for the most part more like Bay Ridge, demographically speaking, and they have limestones - more of a Bay Ridge thing - instead of brownstones - more of a Sunset Park thing - but now most people I know (I still have family in the area) gave in and just call it Sunset Park.

Funny - hipsters were spotted.

Totally unscientific, but I think of the borders in two ways. The first is about 30th or so to the cut-off at the elevated around 64th. The second is wider because of history, so about 17th to 65th.
I know the papers report it as SP when something happens on 18th and 4th. But I'd guess that most people who live in the late teens and 20's would call it South Slope or Greenwood Heights these days.
