What You See in Sunset Park: Driveway Squash

My son spotted these and took the photo. Not bad for under three. If you don't have room in the back, grow it over the driveway. I like that almost all of it is a uniform shade of green. This was between 7th and 8th, somewhere in the high 40's.

ummm.... nnno, that is what YOU see in Sunset Park, not me. Or, rather, your son. Yes, he is the best and smartest kid ever.

Maybe I should change it to: What You Would See in Sunset Park if You Had to Walk Very Very Slowly Down A Side Street Due to Your Toddler's Need to Inspect Every Single Ant and Crack and Vegetable Within a 50 Foot Radius.

And THAT's why people still put larger kids in strollers. :)

47th Street. It sure beats putting some blue tarp over the driveway.

Pretty sweet! The short light green wrinkly squash is common on 8th ave and likely is open pollinated, meaning that the seeds for this guy came from the squash you see at the stand. I don't remember seeing the big green one, but perhaps they are letting them grow too much ( only so much squash you can eat ). Take a pic of the planter; if anyone wants to replicate this it'd be good to know how big it is. Better still would be a pic of the proud gardener.

Anon 1:18 to Anon 3:14, the wrinkly squash is bitter melon (Momordica charantia) and the other one is hairy cucumber (Benincasa hispida). Both are good for stir fry and for soup. The hairy cucumber has a longer shelf life than the bitter melon.

I have seen this as well. Why can't my squash grow like this?
