Last Chance for Bridge as Icon at Tabla Rasa

Tabla Rasa has extended the Bridge as Icon exhibition through September 20, 2008. The gallery will be open this Saturday afternoon. Make sure to check it out!

Tabla Rasa Show Extended until September 20th

Bridge as Icon, which opened in late May, was meant to end on July 26, but if you missed it (or if you want to see it again - which appeals to me, at least), you can still get there.

While you should call ahead for summer hours, the regular gallery hours are Noon-5 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Call 718 833 9100 to double-check when they are open in August.

Tabla Rasa Celebrates the Brooklyn Bridge in Sunset Park

As I mentioned in an earlier post, tomorrow is the official opening of Tabla Rasa's Bridge as Icon show to honor the 125th Birthday of the Brooklyn Bridge. This is from their website:

In celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge,
Tabla Rasa Gallery presents BRIDGE as ICON. This exhibition offers artwork inspired by the world's best known bridge. The universally recognized Gothic arches provide a soaring visual metaphor for the spirit of ingenuity. As the omnipresent symbol of Brooklyn itself, the bridge has been an inspiration for poetry, cinema, music, advertising, as well as painting and graphic arts. Whether literal or symbolic, each artwork captures an individual essence of connection.

Original contemporary paintings, photographs, and works on paper will be on display, along with vintage bookplates and prints.

The gallery is located at 224 48th Street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in SPArC (Sunset Park Artists' Community). From Manhattan, "D" train to 36 Street in Brooklyn, cross platform, and take "R" train one stop to 45th Street. Parking is available.

On May 20th, Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn had a posting about one of the Brooklyn artists, Simon Dinnerstein, which included his "Purple Haze." Great stuff. I look forward to checking it out this week. Today, the Brooklyn Eagle had an extensive article about the gallery and the exhibit.

Tabla Rasa to Celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Brooklyn Bridge Opening

Did you know that Sunset Park is the humble host to an art gallery? I mean a real, high-ceilinged, shows lots of pieces art gallery. The Tabla Rasa Gallery is located at 224 48th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues), and it's affiliated with SPArC, or the Sunset Park Arts Community. Not a long walk, no matter what part of SP you call home.

Starting on May 22nd and running through June 26th, the exhibition "Bridge as Icon" will be the focus at Table Rasa. There is an extensive list of artists contributing to this show. The website has the full list.

Here's my favorite thing about the gallery (well, other than that they display darn good art): it's free and open to the public. No cost, and no invites needed. That means that nerdy, out-of-touch, don't get special notices and invitations to artsy stuff people like me can just stop in! Oh yeah.

The gallery is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5 PM. The phone number is 718-833-9100. And according to the website there might be a special summer schedule.
