McBrooklyn Supplies the Lowdown on Getting Food Stamps

These days, a lot of people who thought they'd never need assistance, do.  McBrooklyn has the information and links on how to apply for food stamps here. 

And if you're fortunate enough to not worry about your next meal, consider donating cash or food to one of Sunset Park's food pantries.  They're doing a great job, but they really need some support.

United Methodist (47th and 4th) provided a Thanksgiving meal to many people, and their pantry line is always very long on Thursdays.  I met the pastor there last week, and he's a really great guy.  Check out this link from May for more information.

Reminder: Lutheran's Green Market on Thursdays

It accepts EBT/WIC and cash. The carrots and corn look amazing. They have those cute mini-pumpkins. There's a bakery section. The produce was picked on Wednesday. Check out the BIT segment here. It's open every Thursday (8 AM - 5 PM) until November 19th, 2009.

I haven't gone yet because it seems like a hike from my end of Sunset. However, after trekking with my double-stroller to 5th and 62nd to send a package (7th and 55th had a line out the door), Lutheran doesn't seem that far. If the rain isn't too bad in the AM, I'm there.

Sunset Park Costco to Try Out Food Stamps

I like Costco. I like a lot of its politics, and I like the way the company treats its employees. I also like that I can buy cereal, tires, and baby carrots at a discount. (Okay, it was just one tire, but it was a lot less than anywhere else within walking distance.) Now there's one more reason to like Costco: the company is going to accept food stamps beginning in June, and Sunset Park is one of its "try it on for size" locations.
