What to do when the pool gets closed down early? Start your own boxing ring, of course! These two boys were very enthusiastic, if a bit windmill-like with their arms, while pummeling each other.
The audience (sometimes heard to yell, "Hey, gimme the gloves! I wanna try!") was less enthusiastic, but planted firmly along the benches.
I particularly like the juxtaposition of the boys and the mom with baby in stroller. The baby is actually pointing to the boys with interest.
The gloves look pretty new; perhaps we'll be seeing more of this impromptu behavior.
At least they weren't waving machetes around like the boys in Sunset Park around 11 PM last night. I'll take padded gloves any day.

We moved here a couple of months ago and we love it. We live on 44th between 7th and 8th so we're at the park all the time. I wish I would have seen them boxing, that would have been super. A few weeks ago my wife and I watched an entire 9 inning, pickup baseball game at the baseball court. It was a little harrowing at times, because there were also 2 soccer games going on in the outfield. Some of the kids were really good too.
I think it's great... I'm a little puzzled as to why it's being referred to as "impromptu behavior," boxing being an organized and professional sport that requires disciple and practice to learn, and gloves like that being hard to come by rather than something one simply has on hand at all times. The alleged machete wielding, now that's impromptu behavior-- is that substantiated?
Impromptu because it wasn't an "organized" event; it seemed to be a bunch of kids deciding to perform/entertain.
