The Brooklyn Eagle rocks. Really. Few, if any, gratuitous exclamation points or Post-like headlines, lots of community events listed, and it give Sunset Park attention once in a while.
According to an article published on-line yesterday, Sunset Park (26th Street, which many would say is now called Greenwood Heights) is getting another hotel. And this one is a high-class chain. Watch your back Days Inn!
This ten-story Best Western will be on 4th Avenue. Will it be blocking any views? That's something to consider since it will be just west of Green-Wood Cemetery. The owner is listed as Joseph Yunatanov, and it is supposed to have 99 rooms.
We'll see if it actually happens, and let's hope it has better news items than the Best Western in Bay Ridge, the Gregory, which has had several deaths occur on its floors.

(Another) New Hotel on 39th
As if the new Kings Hotel and the now-established Days Inn weren't enough, it seems another hotel is in the works for 39th Street. It seems that its six floors will have 46 units. It will have 12 parking spaces, and it's asking for two curb cuts to accommodate easy arrival and departure. From the looks of things, it won't be opening for a long while. In fact, considering the current state of the work, it will be quite a wait to reserve your room. Poor 39th Street. It's being torn apart like crazy.

Weird Item of the Week
The Brooklyn Eagle has this blurb about The Sleep Inn on 49th between 2nd and 3rd. It's really nothing more than an ad. I have no problem with that; keep newspapers in business, I say. However, I'm not too sure about the details that are omitted. And I'm also not sure I'd want to use that whirlpool.
from the Brooklyn Eagle:
The Sleep Inn, at 247 49th St. in Sunset Park, offers many amenities in all of their rooms. Among these are: flat-screen/plasma TVs, multiple phone lines and pillow-top mattresses. In some rooms, available upon request, the Sleep Inn offers an in-bath whirlpool. Pictured here are a room with a king-sized bed, a flat-screen TV, desk area and work space, and the complimentary breakfast buffet.
More helpful are the two "reviews" I found.

Anyone want to go check the place out?

Hotels, hotels everywhere in Sunset Park
Besides the long-ago begun hotel on 39th Street and the lovely Days Inn on 39th between 4th and 5th Avenues, there are rumors about a hotel development going in on 3rd Avenue and 49th (?), and even over be the 59th express train. And now, according to Brownstoner.com, 33rd Street between 2nd and 3rd will get its own hotel. I know the jail uses up a lot of current hotel space, but the Days Inn isn't so much cheaper, and I've heard the rooms are tiny. I'll be curious to see what a types of establishments show up. Will we get a Hotel Le Bleu? Now THAT would be something. But where will they find nice neighbors like the taxi depot?
